I have an 8 year old son who i know has a form of autism, the school believes this also, i was wondering what help their is in our area to see that he succeeds in life? After a work related injury i lost my insurance and have applied for child health plus but don't know where to turn to once it is approved. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi sweets535, I'm sorry I don't know much about child health plus but I can tell you, you need to get an evaluation done on your child and get an official diagnosis so to speak. You need to talk to your sons pediatrician and have them arrange for your son to see a specialist, probably in Rochester. Though I did hear that their is a satellite program at Southern Tier Pediatrics and the doctors from Rochester are coming here to diagnose kids with Autism. Again, you need to talk to your sons doctor and tell them you want an evaluation done, I'm not sure why your pediatrician hasn't suggested this already but..... Once you get an official diagnosis more doors will be open to you for services and to succeed in life your son will need services, lots and lots of services. I wonder can you apply for Medicade? It's nothing to be ashamed of especially in these hard economic times and I think helping a child with real needs is sort of what Medicade is for isn't it? Please come back and tell us what you decide to do and what you find out, I for one care and really do want to help you. Good Luck.
