Hi Everyone, There is a local support group that meets each month above the Corning Library in the Community Care Conference Room. Children are welcome to attend and are looked after at the Parent Resource Center during the meetings by staff from the ARC of Steuben. Meetings generally are from 6-8pm on the third Thursday of each month. This group looks to support families that have a family member with an autism spectrum disorder. It is a recent start up group, and you can help shape the direction that the group takes. The group is run by Belinda vanDright. Another group may start up in the Hornell area in the future. THe next meeting is Thursday, July 24th at 6:30 and the speaker will be Sharon Marella from Parent to Parent. Also discussed will be the format for the group swimming event on July 26th. Also-Economic Opportunity Program (EOP) in Elmira has a support group, I believe for family members of all people with disabilities (not just autism). You could call Wendy Watkins at EOP (607) 734-6174 for more details.

The EOP meetings in Elmira will not start again till the last Wed. of Aug at 6pm. We want to plan a big agency fair, so come and give your ideas or post some. You can also contact Joyce at muscles4kids@yahoo.com We also are a very open group who welcomes all disabilities and caretakers of children who have a disability or are in the process of being diagnosed. We also welcome parents who might think that their child has a disability, and professionals are welcome to attend our meetings. We have many guest speakers. We are also interested in starting a sibs group, so anyone interested let us know.
